Upon viewing a painting barely an inch form our face, we are unable to appreciate what is in it, what may be painted or anything else in the painting, however, by moving back further, we will have a better view of the entire work.
Eventually we all reach a point in our lives when we are indeed ready for change, and then search for the information to assist us in unlocking our power of self improvement. Until we reach this point, the answer may be staring us right in the face and still we do not recognize it. It is generally, when things become worse that we consider unlocking the power of our self improvement. For instance, consider the Frog principle:
Place in a pot of boiling water, Frog A. What is the result? He will twerp and then jump away. Why? Because he cannot tolerate the sudden environmental change or the water temperature. Now place Frog B in lukewarm water and then turn up the heat, while you wait for the water to boil.
Frog B will sit there thinking, Hmmm, it is getting warmer…
Generally humans are much like Frog B.
For instance, Michelle thinks John hates her, tomorrow, Bob tells her he cannot stand her. Anna prods along just the same without heeding her friends words. The next day, she finds out that Nancy and Susan abhor her as well. It takes an entire community to find fault in Michelle, before she recognizes the importance of her need for self improvement.
Experiencing pain teaches us lessons, when things begin to become unbearable that we finally notice the signals and warning signs. For example, when do we cease consuming candy and sweets? When we loose all our teeth. When do we decide to diet? When our clothing no longer fits. When do we cease smoking? When our lungs are irreparably damaged. When do we finally pray for help? When we find ourselves dying.
When the whole world comes tumbling down, generally is the time we learn what it is, we need to do, to unlock our powers of self improvement. We think and feel this way since, change does not come easy. However, change becomes more painful as we ignore it.
Whether we like it or not, change will come. Eventually, we all experience the need for change, this will help us to unlock our power of self improvement. It is not because our family and friends nag us or that the world says we should, however, we change when we realize it is in our own best interest.
Happy individuals embrace change, rather than just accepting it. You do not have to experience the pressure of heat to realize your need for self improvement.
Unlocking your power of self improvement means unlocking your cage of thoughts about who you are, which is a poor excuse of people who resist or fear change. Many of us program our minds, much like computers.
Marcie tells everyone repeatedly that she is uncomfortable in large crowds. She has heard her family and teachers tell the same things about her to others. This is what Marcie believes, this is her story.
What happens?
Every time a large group would gather, whether at home, school and the community, she is more apt to shy away, step back or be found in her room. Marcie not only believed her story, she lived it daily.
Realizing that she is not what she seems in her story would be best. Rather than having her story repeated to all she knows to note and remember, she must search in her spirit to show other she is an important person, and should be treated accordingly. She must first realize this in herself.
So what if self improvement is not your favorite word. Looking at your life from a higher perspective, you will find better opportunities of benefiting while enjoying the full process, rather than summing up the hours of complete improvement. Whether your sessions a week at the gym brings you healthy living, reading books rather than watching porn shapes a much more insightful intelligence or even joining friends or family, while relaxing after work. This is when your realize you are enjoying the process of unlocking your power of self improvement, when you find yourself becoming happy and lighthearted.

January 4, 2009Greetings Reed, Thomas Richmond here, like the artical thank you, change is good, several factores into that, one is that it gives you a new avenue on life to adventure into and with that comes your experiances or in our case as marketers , (expertise), self improvement has to be a two way street if its not then your going to find yourself always trying to push through and not succeeding. This past week has been a remarkable change for me, from being a business man working with my search engine optimizer website into a whole new realm of c.e.o. of a community network website. All the best to you my friend and thank you for a great read. God_bless you and your family ๐

January 4, 2009You always have interesting topics. Most people do not take change easily. Positive people change with the flow. Negative people do not. By thinking positive you can recalibrate your subconscious mind. Positive things happen when you think positively.

January 4, 2009Reed,
I love your post! You are sooo right when you say change will happen eventually. Change is inevitable, change is a gift.
It makes me think back on all those times when I was screaming “WHY ME?”. Those times were all times of great change for me and I was resisting!! You know what though? Now that I have moved forward on my path, I can see them for what they were – GIFTS! And,I am able to accept change and in fact even seek out change as a way of BEing. Life is so much better!
Thanks again for the post!

January 4, 2009Hmmmm.
Personally, you won’t get me into a room with people in it, either.
I’ve been that way for over 30 years and accept it as part of being ‘me’.
We are all exactly as we were meant to be.
To change, or to try to change that, is to be a fake.
I’ll remain honest, thanks.
No relationships is really no loss.

January 4, 2009Hi Reed,
Very absorbing and self examining post. It’s too bad that most people don’t recognize the need for personal changes until they hit rock bottom.
But you know what “they” say: ‘Better late than never’.
Great article,

January 4, 2009After reading that post it sure makes you wonder. At times I feel uncomfortable with large crowds but always manage to cope. I have gathered a lot of selfimprovement audios and some written materials and these have helped me to improve in many ways including Focus, consentration, visualization etc. Self-improvement should be at the top of everyones list as it helps in creating a better understanding and awareness of everything around you including your business structure.

January 4, 2009No doubt that self improvement is an important process with regards to maturation and personal growth. I think articles like this remind us all of just how much we can improve our lives with hard work and self assessment.

January 4, 2009Self-improvement covers all aspects of one’s life and personality. They include the physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, social, and even financial. Each person should strive to work on the upgrades of all these.
Physical improvement basically calls for keeping the body healthy and strong enough to make it a most efficient instrument for the mind to carry out its functions. Intellectual calls for the development of thinking skills based on knowledge for the solution of everyday problems. Emotional for its control to harness its energy (positive) to propel one towards the attainment of one’s goals. Social for harmonious relationship with others for smooth cooperation in the attainment of social goals. Financial refers not only to money but the production of resources that one will need for the achievement of goals.
Spiritual not only refers to one’s relationship to the Almighty Being but also to the discovery on one’s true purpose in life.
All men should develop these aspects because that is why we are here for. It seeks the perfection of oneself for him to be able to blend well with this Almighty Being, Who Himself is the Perfect One. We cannot be perfect, but its pursuit brings us closer to it.

January 4, 2009The truth of your post is a commentary on life in America today. Many people who have lived privileged lives until now are suddenly faced with their financial “world tumbling down” around them and are forced to look at their lives in a different light — many do not like what they see. Things they’ve taken for granted have suddenly vanished and the prestige along with those things have disappeared as well. Finding ways to redefine themselves-at least temporarily-can be challenging, but in no way impossible. The first step, I think, would be to acknowledge the real necessity for a change of mindset that would allow them (us?) to see todays economic challenges as opportunities to find new, innovative ways to prosper and perhaps even to rethink our definition of prosperity.

January 4, 2009Hi Nando,
The real pity is that YOU are YOU and you cannot make any personal changes to that.
Just accept your life as it is.
There is nothing you can do to alter that.

January 4, 2009Ah, yes… the only thing certain in this life is change. Even while we try to resist it, it’s important to note that water that doesn’t change (move) stagnates — just as we do! I really liked the frog examples.
I think key to embracing change and realizing that we are in need of it, is choosing how we spend our time, and who we spend it with. Our environment truly shapes us. We can hang around with people who will inspire us to grow, or those who will try to hold us back.
Thanks for another great post, Reed.

January 4, 2009Reed you are absolutely correct. We unlock our potential through self improvement. We begin by changing our mind, our thoughts about ourselves, our situations, our conditions and our circumstances.
In other words if our life is not what we want it to be or if it is unmanageable in areas such as our personal life, finances, home, work, or business then we change by first realizing that we need to change in order to reach our potential in any of the areas.
If we want to change things in our life and reach our potential then we need to change things in our life. Change is never easy and normally comes through conflict. This might be through conflicting information, replacing what you once thought was good information with more realistic information. We unlock this potential by prospering in our mind, setting our will by making a decision to change and starting to do the things that will get us to the destination, the better self, remembering that change is a continuous journey. We begin to become the person before we become the person. We begin to act like that person, speak like that person etc. We regulate our imagination as well as our emotions. We don’t care what people say or how I feel. I begin to prosper in my intellect.
The Bible says “as a man thinketh so is he.”
Wiilie Jolley states in his book, It Only Takes A Minute To Change Your Life!, “The minute you decide to go after your dreams is the minute you change your life.”

I personally do not like being in a crowd. Any crowd over 2 people is bad enough for me. Is that wrong? I’m not as bad now as when younger and have accepted this as part of ME.
Self Improvement? I prefer the term Self Development.
Self Development as been my passion for many years. There are limitations to what one can achieve. Accept this, that is maturity.

January 4, 2009Very insightful post Reed. I think one of the important things for anybody on the “oath to self improvement” to remember is that honesty with yourself about your strengths and weaknesses is essential. You have to come to terms with who you are before you will be able to effectively change those areas in your life you do not like.
I think on the dark side of the self improvement industry are those who are driven by their own self loathing to try and change everything about themselves and either fake it as a previous poster indicated, or make themselves into the spiritual equivelant of Michael Jacksons face, with so much reconstructive “surgery” that they no longer resemble a human being.
WE each have our own challenges and onstacles (one of mine is procrastination), but we have to learn to see ourselves honestly and accept those things we cannot change.

January 5, 2009Yep thats it young man we need to embrace change cause its going to happen whether we like it or not.A person that doesn’t mind trying something and failing will succeed in life eventually. To want to be better is what we aqll want,Some people just don’t have the ambition to go out and find the better. Those that do will find the better not in just succeeding but just in the trying to succeed.Efforts made to improve are satisfying to some extyent but to just keep failing is defeating to some . To some its just another stepping stone. I believe I’m in that category cause Idon’ like to give up on something. Don’t quit until you’re done! Doug Olson

January 5, 2009Great Post and so true. Change does not come easily for most of us unless it is something we really want.
Human nature I think gives us the ability to adapt but the desire to stay in our comfort zone. We cannot improve though or make the change we desire if we stay in that comfort zone.
I don’t like giving up something either, but sometimes we must get rid of the old and bring in the new in order to make progress. Old habits die hard.

January 17, 2009Change IS wonderful. ๐
But it’s true that some fear it because it signifies new horizons.
But you’re right. The best words are right here:
It is not because our family and friends nag us or that the world says we should, however, we change when we realize it is in our own best interest.
